June 30, 2012: Chris Horner is in the Tour de France this year. A last-minute change to the team. I hope he does well. It’s also George Hincapie’s last year. He seems like a great team mate.  I hope Levi has a good race too.

June 2012: It’s time to add Chris Horner. Always a good interview, a dedicated competitor, and tough racer.

June 18, 2007: I’m glad Erik Zabel won the second stage of the Tour de Suisse on June 17, 2007. This is something very positive to report on since the doping scandal in which he admitting using EPO many years ago. That small infraction does not negate a long career of many successes from great athlete and someone who has shown great sportsmanship. The stage win was a photo finish against Daniele Bennati, just moments after a crash took out a handful of riders just behind Zabel and the leaders.

Other race news: I’m glad Levi did not get seriously injured in that crash on the last day of the Dauphine. He almost had the stage win but slipped in the rain. Those crashes are hard to watch. Maybe the wet road helped him slide and dispersed the impact, despite the fact that the wet surface caused the crash in the first place. He was able to get up again and get back on his bike.

May 25, 2007: I’m very disappointed to read the Erik Zabel has used the performance enhancing sports drug EPO. However, that was over 10 years ago, and unless he and other pro cyclists test positive today, I don’t understand what good it will do to bring up issues from the past.

There are many investigations and governing bodies all with different rules. There needs to be consistency and possibly a statue of limitations. The emphasis should be on what riders are doing now, this year, as Bjarne Riis stated in his press conference:

May 3, 2007: Levi is having a great year with his win at the Tour of California and the time trial win in Georgia. I hope his training is being designed to keep him fresh for the Tour de France in July. Lance’s training was always timed so precisely; now this year with the shake up concerning Ivan Basso, there may be changes in the line up for the Discovery Channel team in the Tour de France. If Levi becomes the team captain, I hope he wins the Tour.
